Kenyan comedy has grown over the years, from the redykyulass TV show back in the days to the now popular Churchill Show.

Comedy has been said to be the downfall of many humorous comedians who are said to be paid peanuts while working.

The same comedy has also seen a number Kenyan of comedians become very rich. In this list, we look at the richest comedians in Kenya.


5. Mc Jessy

From humble beginnings, Mc Jessie has grown to become one of the best in Kenyan Comedy. Mc jessy grew into popularity and limelight in the Churchill show curtain raiser Churchill raw. Churchill Raw was set to give a chance to new and upcoming comedians in the Churchill show.

Though a comedian, Mc jessy real names Jasper Muthomi is a university graduate from Daystar University where he completed a Bachelor Degree in Communication.

4. Erick Omondieric-omondi

Eric Omondi is probably one of the best comedians in Kenya. He is known to start his comedy in the Churchill show and later expanded to become a global brand. After Churchill, Eric Omondi left KTN to star in his show dubbed ‘Hawayuni.’ He has also appeared in some of Africa’s best comic shows such as Untamed.

Eric Omondi is a former student of Kisumu Boys high School. Later on, he joined Daystar University where he undertook a Bachelor Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism.

BBC ranked Eric Omondi as one of the best African funniest men; the list was topped by Trevor Noah from South Africa and Nigeria’s basketmouth. Erick Omondi was ranked 9th on the list of Africa’s funniest man.

“I believe it is because of God that I’m here today. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to me, and it doesn’t add up how I got here. I give Him all the credit. I was also never handed the brand Eric Omondi, I worked hard, and I’m still working hard, It was not luck,” Erick Omondi.

3. Nyambane

Once upon a time, there was a famous comedy crew in Kenya called ‘Redykyulass.’ The faces behind ‘redykyulass’ were Nyambane, Kajairo, and KJ among many others. In its time this was one of the most popular TV shows in the country.

Out of the show came the birth of many comedians including Walter Mongare, aka ‘Nyambane’ who played the character of the retired President of Kenya Daniel Arap Moi to perfection. Redykyulass, later under unknown circumstances disappeared from TV never to be seen again.

After redkyulass broke its ways, Nyambane worked for Radio Africa group, KBC and Nairobi County as the director of communication.

2. Jalango

Jalango, real names Felix Odiwour is one of the famous Kenyan comedians. He is Kisumu born and known for his signature look, a green suit, and a leopard print shirt.

Jalango is an actor, comedian, radio show host and a Kenyan director.

He has appeared in most TV shows such as ‘Papa Shirandula’ and most music videos.

Jalango currently works with Jeff Koinange at Hot 96, a royal media radio station. Jalango has also co-hosted the big breakfast show alongside popular radio personalities Caroline Mutoko and Larry Asego at Kiss FM.

Jalango has also featured in most of the Kenyan adverts such as Molo milk etc.

Jalango is also a co-founder of Arena Media marketing agency which deals with events and commercial adverts of different products on TV. Jalango is said to be paid a hefty Ksh.250,000 per single appearance to MC an event.

 1. Churchill Aka Daniel Ndambukidaniel-churchill-ndambuki

Known as the ‘father of Kenyan comedy‘, Churchill is undoubtedly the richest comedian in Kenya. Churchill, through his show ‘the Churchill Show’ has nurtured some of the best talents in Kenyan comedy. Some of the big names under his name include Eric Omondi, Mc Jessie, Chipukeezy, Karis and many others.

Mr. Daniel Ndambuki is said to be one of the best African comedians.
He is also credited with founding the Laugh industry Kenya where big brands such as the Churchill Show run under it.

Churchill also stars in the popular radio talk show ‘Maina and Kingangi’ every weekday on Classic 105.
